Senior AI Software Engineer

About the role

LEONI, a global provider of products, solutions and services for energy and data management in the automotive industry, is hiring a Senior AI Software Engineer in Cairo. You will design, build and operationalize software solutions in which AI is a core part, combining rapid experimentation, enterprise software engineering and production operation. You work in a cross-functional automation team in a global environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build AI-enabled applications, web apps, APIs and workflow integrations using GenAI, agents, document intelligence, computer vision or classical machine learning, turning unclear business problems into testable hypotheses and vertical slices.
• Assess prototypes from the Core AI team, business users or citizen developers and take the chosen ones to production with tests, CI/CD, observability and documentation.
• Build secure, reusable integrations, MCPs and APIs to LEONI enterprise and engineering systems, respecting identity, access and data-governance boundaries.
• Design evaluations, test datasets and tests for probabilistic outputs, implement safeguards, human review and fallbacks, and protect against prompt injection, data leakage and unintended agent actions, in line with GDPR, the EU AI Act and InfoSec requirements.
• Monitor quality, usage, latency, cost and failures in operation.
• Contribute to AI platforms and reusable foundations, including services, templates, starter repositories and reference implementations, and help define standard interfaces for document processing, retrieval, model access, authentication, logging and evaluation.
• Select and compare models and hosting options, manage model updates and migrations, and promote modular design, version control, automated testing and code review.
• Collaborate with the Core AI Team, IT architecture, IT security, data owners and process experts, explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and coach other IT engineers or citizen developers.

Required profile

• Typically 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years building AI- or LLM-based solutions, or equivalent demonstrated impact.
• Proven experience building and operating full-stack, pro-code applications in an enterprise environment, with strong fundamentals in architecture, APIs, integration, testing, security and deployment.
• Proven experience building AI and agentic solutions and running them in production, including evaluation, regression testing and quality monitoring.
• A product mindset focused on the end user, business outcome and long-term operation.
• Fluent English; German at least at B2 level, or willingness to reach it within the first year.

Required skills

• Python and/or TypeScript on a major cloud platform (ideally Azure).
• Nice to have: LLM and agent frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph, Microsoft technologies, industrial AI in production (visual inspection, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection) with MLOps, and experience in manufacturing, Tier 1 automotive supply or the automotive industry.
