General Accountant

About the role

Hitachi Rail GTS Egypt LLC is looking for a General Accountant based in Cairo. The role covers maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain general ledger accounts, keeping financial data accurate and complete.
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepayments and reclassifications.
• Reconcile bank statements, intercompany accounts and other balance sheet accounts regularly.
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Support the external audit by preparing requested documentation and explanations.
• Ensure compliance with Egyptian GAAP and company policies.
• Process accounts payable and receivable, including invoice verification and payments.
• Assist with tax compliance, including tax filings and related documentation.
• Analyse financial data and give management insights on financial performance.
• Collaborate with other departments on timely reporting and help develop accounting policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience as a General Accountant, preferably in a multinational or manufacturing/engineering environment.
• Candidates with little or no professional experience are welcome if they have completed an international study programme (e.g. Erasmus, exchange, Master's abroad) or gained work experience abroad.
• Strong communication skills in English and Arabic.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Egyptian GAAP.
• Accounting software such as SAP or Oracle, and Microsoft Excel.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in a team.
