Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer – Training Program

About the role

Valeo is looking for recent graduates to join its Graduate in Training (GIT) program focused on mechanical design and engineering services. You will work alongside senior engineers to develop new automotive components and improve existing products, gaining hands‑on experience from concept to production.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior engineers to brainstorm and develop detailed mechanical concepts.
• Create and maintain complex 3D models using SolidWorks and support prototyping activities.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles under mentorship.
• Perform tolerance stack‑up analysis, GD&T checks, and basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations.
• Generate 2D drawings, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Bills of Materials (BOMs) following company documentation standards.
• Manufacture and assemble components using hand tools and shop equipment.
• Work cross‑functionally with software, system, testing and manufacturing teams to transition designs to full production.

Required profile

• Recent graduate (2024 or 2025) with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 0‑1 year experience in mechanical design or product development.
• Strong interest in automotive or mobility solutions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks required; CATIA V5 a plus).
• Ability to produce accurate 2D drawings and apply GD&T standards.
• Understanding of DFM and DFA concepts.
• Basic experience with FEA tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS.
• Hands‑on knowledge of machining, sheet‑metal fabrication and additive manufacturing (FDM, SLA).
• Competence with hand tools and shop equipment for component manufacturing and assembly.
