Lead Subcontract Mechanical Engineer

About the role

The Mechanical Subcontract Lead manages mechanical subcontractors and construction packages for power projects, ensuring mechanical works are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule and in line with contractual, technical, quality and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage mechanical subcontractors from mobilization through construction, completion and close-out.
• Evaluate and compare bidders' offers and estimate labour productivity and man-hours for equipment erection and construction.
• Oversee subcontracted mechanical works such as equipment installation, piping, tanks, pumps, rotating and static equipment, structural steel and associated systems.
• Review subcontractor execution plans, manpower, equipment, schedules and construction methods.
• Monitor progress and productivity against approved schedules and milestones, and verify completed quantities.
• Ensure work follows approved drawings, specifications, method statements and project procedures, and recommend recovery plans where needed.
• Support mechanical completion, punch-list clearance, turnover and handover to commissioning, and ensure HSE and quality compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 10-12 years of relevant experience, preferably in EPC construction projects.
• Previous experience at Manager, Construction Manager, Subcontract Manager or equivalent level.
• Strong preference for power plant/CCGT construction experience, including major mechanical installation packages.
• Experience managing mechanical subcontractors on large-scale industrial projects.
• Good command of English.

Required skills

• Understanding of mechanical construction sequencing, interfaces, progress measurement, contracts, variations and claims.
• Leadership, coordination, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
