Manager, Banking Legal Services (Project, Asset Finance and Export Development)

About the role

Afreximbank is recruiting a Manager for Banking Legal Services covering Project, Asset Finance and Export Development, based in Cairo. Reporting to the Head of Banking Legal Services, the role supports the Legal Department in advancing the Bank's mission of expanding African trade and developing its legal services delivery strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide tailored, commercially focused legal advice to the Bank and its subsidiaries on banking and finance matters, special projects and loan products
• Identify legal risks, advise on laws and regulations, and ensure controls mitigate legal risks
• Support legal processes, standardised documentation and precedents, and coordinate external legal counsel
• Advise on borrowings in international capital and money markets, asset and liability management, and equity participations, grants and co-financing with multilateral and bilateral institutions
• Represent the Bank in negotiations, disputes and proceedings, and conduct deal appraisals, legal due diligence and document negotiation
• Manage legal workstreams for ongoing transactions and advise management and staff
• Comply with AML, counter-terrorism financing, anti-bribery and corruption, insider trading and conflict of interest policies, report suspicious activity and complete annual compliance training

Required profile

• Postgraduate degree in Law from a recognised university and a Diploma in Legal Practice from a recognised Bar Course
• At least 8 years of professional legal practice, with emphasis on banking and financial services
• Experience with cross-border trade and project finance documentation, including structured trade and corporate finance, project and asset-based finance, guarantees, sovereign lending and private equity
• Good knowledge of banking practices in Africa

Required skills

• Excellent English, with French, Arabic or Portuguese as an advantage
• Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills
• Familiarity with trade finance, project finance, treasury and transnational transactions
• Ability to deliver sound legal advice under strict deadlines
