Operations Data Scientist

About the role

The Operations Data Scientist will lead the extraction of key insights from high‑volume transportation systems such as timetables, rosters, ridership, and train control data. Working within the Operations Systems team, you will collaborate with software providers, data engineering, and digital teams to deliver data‑driven solutions that improve operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Perform standard and custom data and numerical transformations programmatically.
• Design, develop, and maintain business intelligence reporting solutions using Qlik Sense and Microsoft Power BI.
• Create dynamic visual dashboards to support operational needs across departments.
• Optimize existing code for speed and performance, and package programs for end‑user friendliness.
• Maintain a growing library of department‑specific programs, visualizations, and documentation.
• Liaise with software vendors, internal users, and clients to ensure feature alignment and performance.
• Partner with operational teams to define data streams, manipulate KPI data, and investigate edge cases.
• Maintain data lake integrations, Qlik Sense data sources, and SharePoint access for stakeholders.
• Apply project‑management techniques and keep work tracking transparent for all parties.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of fundamental statistics and handling of date/time data types.
• Familiarity with modern train/metro operations and high‑volume system data.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
