Project Controls & Reporting Lead

About the role

The Project Controls & Reporting Lead owns the control environment for the project portfolio, covering cost, progress, commercial status and management reporting. The role gives project leadership and senior sponsors a single, accurate and automated view of what has been delivered, what has been invoiced, what remains and where the risks lie, combining financial control discipline with data engineering and automation.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain project cost and commercial controls, including BoQ baselines, scope changes, invoicing, cash-flow forecasting and variation tracking.
• Monitor costs, margins, commitments and actual spend, flagging variances and recommending corrective action.
• Support contract administration, including claims, change orders, payment milestones and invoice reconciliation.
• Maintain project schedules and baselines, tracking milestones, critical paths, risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies.
• Consolidate progress data and provide forward-looking reporting on schedule, resource and delivery risks.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards covering cost, progress, contract status and portfolio performance.
• Automate and standardise reporting and data processes using Power Automate, Power Query, SQL and other project control tools.
• Ensure data quality, consistency and accuracy, with reconciliation and audit controls.
• Prepare and present monthly project reviews to senior leadership.
• Partner with Project Managers, Finance, Tendering, Supply Chain and Delivery teams and promote consistent project controls standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in documentation control, contract financial analysis, data analysis and project services within a large engineering or industrial organisation.
• Demonstrated ownership of cost, progress and contract reporting on a mega-project, including BoQ generation, scope-to-item analysis and tracking of invoiced, remaining and not-yet-started scope.
• Proven experience managing cashflow and invoicing data flows with Finance, with a measurable reduction in billing disputes.
• Experience supporting operations across multiple regions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Preferred: Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse), advanced Excel including VBA, SQL, Python, PowerShell, Tableau alongside Power BI.
• Preferred: formal training in project scheduling and planning, hands-on EDMS experience, and experience in energy, power systems, data centre or industrial projects.
