Senior HV Substation Engineer – Primary Design

About the role

Synergy STS is expanding its grid and energy infrastructure engineering capability and seeks a Senior HV Substation Engineer to lead primary design activities. The role involves engineering and designing high‑voltage (HV/EHV) substations for international projects, ensuring technical excellence and coordination across multiple disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Engineering and design of HV/EHV substations, including AIS and GIS installations.
• Develop and review single line diagrams, substation layouts, and equipment arrangements.
• Configure busbars and select HV equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs, VTs, and surge arresters.
• Prepare and review technical specifications and datasheets for all substation components.
• Design earthing and lightning protection systems and coordinate related activities.
• Perform cable sizing, create cable schedules, and manage interface coordination.
• Produce equipment layouts, sections, and detailed engineering drawings.
• Evaluate technical bids, review vendor documentation, and support procurement.
• Coordinate with protection, control, civil, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
• Participate in design reviews and technical coordination with international project teams.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in HV substations, transmission, or utility projects.
• Strong practical experience with 132 kV and above, preferably in AIS and/or GIS substations.
• Experience working with engineering consultants, utilities, OEMs, or major EPC contractors.
• Familiarity with IEC standards and international engineering practices.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit/BIM is an advantage.
• Excellent technical documentation and English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently within multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.
