Senior Legal Analyst, Banking Legal Services (Intra-African Trade & Corporate Finance)

About the role

Afreximbank is recruiting a Senior Legal Analyst for its Banking Legal Services unit covering Intra-African Trade and Corporate Finance, reporting to the Head of Banking Legal Services. The role supports the Legal Department in advancing the Bank's mission of expanding and diversifying African trade and delivering legal services aligned with the Bank's long-term business strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Work with internal staff and external parties as required by management
• Conduct deal appraisals and provide legal input on proposed transactions
• Carry out legal due diligence on proposed transactions
• Prepare legal documents, including transaction documentation protecting the Bank's interests as lender, borrower or in other capacities
• Negotiate legal documents with transaction counterparties under management's guidance
• Provide legal advice to management and staff on issues, constraints, risks, options and recommended approaches
• Review documentation and assess legal matters arising from financing and non-financing activities
• Manage and monitor legal workstreams for ongoing transactions
• Adhere to AML, regulatory and conduct compliance policies, report suspicious activity to the Compliance Department, complete annual compliance training and assessment, and perform other duties assigned by management

Required profile

• Master's degree in English Common Law from a recognised university
• Qualification to practise as a solicitor in a recognised common law jurisdiction
• At least 3 years of professional legal practice, with emphasis on banking and finance
• Strong banking and finance law fundamentals and good knowledge of banking practices in Africa
• Ability to communicate in English and interact with senior officials of banks, corporates and governments
• Knowledge of French, Arabic or Portuguese is an added advantage
