Senior Ruby Developer

About the role

Advansys is looking for a hands-on Senior Ruby Engineer to lead the development of Ruby-based applications and extensions. You will work as part of a global Agile team to design, build and maintain high-quality features for internal and external users, collaborating closely with Product Owners, Domain Experts, DevOps and other engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of new features, enhancements and bug fixes across Ruby services and supporting components.
• Take part in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, refinements and retrospectives.
• Conduct and take part in thorough code reviews while keeping team coding standards.
• Mentor team members and share knowledge.
• Work with Product Owners and Domain Experts to clarify requirements, validate solutions and refine acceptance criteria.
• Partner with DevOps/Platform teams on CI/CD pipelines, deployments and operational runbooks.
• Drive continuous improvement through refactoring, higher test coverage, performance tuning and technical debt reduction.
• Support production incident triage, postmortems and preventative measures.
• Design and develop reliable backend services and APIs, and contribute to the architecture of service-oriented and distributed systems.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong Ruby proficiency.
• Strong experience building and running backend services and APIs with REST and/or GraphQL.
• Solid understanding of service-oriented architecture and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as RSpec or Minitest, including factories and test-first development.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Azure DevOps.
• Ability to collaborate with distributed teams across time zones.

Required skills

• Relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design and SQL optimization.
• Caching and real-time technologies such as Redis or equivalent.
• Git and modern code-review workflows, including branching and merge strategies.
• Object-oriented programming and strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
