In‑House Legal Counsel – Chemical Manufacturing

About the role

DrasChem Specialty Chemicals is establishing a greenfield sodium cyanide plant in Alexandria. The company seeks an In‑House Legal Counsel to provide expert legal advice, manage risks, and ensure full compliance with Egyptian and international regulations throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Advise senior management and the Project Management Team on contractual, regulatory, compliance and strategic legal matters.
• Monitor and interpret changes in local and international laws, including double tax treaties, that affect operations.
• Act as the primary legal interface with GAFI and other PFZ authorities for licensing, approvals, renewals, inspections and regulatory filings.
• Ensure corporate, commercial and governance compliance with Egyptian law and PFZ regulations.
• Oversee customs, import/export and free‑zone procedures, including exemptions and local sales requirements.
• Coordinate compliance with environmental, industrial safety, hazardous chemicals and Civil Defence regulations applicable to the facility.
• Develop and lead the internal legal department, recruiting qualified professionals and aligning the function with the company’s strategic objectives.

Required profile

• Law degree (LL.B. or equivalent) with a strong background in corporate, commercial and regulatory law.
• Demonstrated experience working within Egypt’s Private Free Zone (PFZ) regulatory framework.
• Proven ability to advise senior executives on complex legal and compliance issues.
• Experience in handling customs, import/export and environmental compliance for industrial projects.
