Mobile Equipment Operator (Level 1 or 2)

About the role

The Louisiana State University of Alexandria is seeking qualified Mobile Equipment Operators (Level 1 or Level 2) to support campus grounds maintenance, transportation, and construction projects. Operators will work under the supervision of a foreman and may mentor lower‑graded personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a variety of mobile equipment, including field tractors, gang mowers, dump trucks, vans, stake‑body and flatbed trucks, buses, and forklifts.
• Perform routine transportation, maintenance, and construction tasks across the university grounds.
• Ensure safe and efficient equipment handling in accordance with university policies.
• Assist higher‑level supervisors and may provide functional oversight to junior operators or labor staff.

Required profile

• Level 1: No prior experience required; ability to operate equipment up to 52 hp and associated attachments.
• Level 2: Demonstrated experience operating larger or more complex equipment.
• General physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Required skills

• Field tractor operation (≤ 52 hp) with attachments such as bush hogs, blades, loaders, and hoes.
• Gang mower operation (up to eight‑foot width).
• Dump truck operation (≤ 6 yd³ capacity).
• Van, stake‑body, and flatbed truck operation (1‑4 ton load rating).
• Bus operation (12‑25 passenger capacity).
• Forklift operation (≥ 10,000 lb lift capacity or ≥ 12 ft lift height).
