Psychologist – Maternal Mental Health (AMAN Project)

About the role

The Psychologist – Maternal Mental Health will lead group‑based psychosocial support for pregnant and lactating mothers (PLMs) and provide focused individual assistance as needed. The role strengthens maternal emotional well‑being, stress management and positive caregiving within an integrated maternal‑child health response.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver structured group sessions for PLMs and offer individual support based on assessed needs.
• Provide orientation and capacity‑building training for Community Health Workers (CHWs) on safe delivery of basic psychosocial support and adapted MHPSS interventions.
• Conduct regular supportive supervision of CHWs to ensure quality, safety and adherence to SCI standards.
• Identify mothers at risk, conduct basic psychosocial screening using SCI‑approved tools, and refer high‑risk cases to specialised mental‑health, medical or protection services.
• Coordinate with Health, Nutrition, MHPSS and Case Management teams to ensure holistic support and integrated programming.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records of sessions, referrals and monitoring data; contribute to reporting, lessons learned and programme improvement.

Required profile

• Qualified psychologist with experience in maternal mental health or related MHPSS fields.
• Proven experience delivering group‑based psychosocial interventions for pregnant or lactating mothers.
• Experience supervising and building capacity of community health workers.
• Familiarity with Psychological First Aid and SCI MHPSS standards.
• Ability to conduct screening, make referrals and follow‑up on cases through established pathways.
