Regional Media & Communications Consultant

About the role

The Media and Communications Team at the IOM Regional Office (RO) supports the RO, its country missions and Headquarters in media relations and communications, including strategy, press releases, digital and social media, and event coverage. The consultant gives technical support to country missions in the MENA region, including editing press materials, drafting op-eds and leading media planning, and works with the supervisor on new communications products.

Key responsibilities

• Support country missions with media relations, editing and reviewing press materials, drafting op-eds and leading media planning
• Help create and roll out communications products such as podcasts and influencer collaborations, and update media talking points and materials
• Contribute to donor visibility and resource mobilization through storytelling and media outreach
• Maintain and update media contact lists, monitor coverage and prepare summaries, and oversee the monthly RO newsletter
• Organize outreach events and develop text, photos, videos and audio for donor submissions, websites and social media
• Provide day-to-day media and communications guidance to missions across the MENA region and coordinate website, social media and other communications projects
• Build the capacity of media teams and run training for media and journalism professionals
• Keep journalists' contact lists updated and maintain relationships with regional and international media outlets

Required profile

• University degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Relations or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in media relations, strategic communications and content development in the MENA region
• Excellent drafting and editing skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage
