School Librarian

About the role

The School Librarian will support teaching and learning across Key Stages 3‑5 by delivering information literacy programmes, curating collections and fostering a vibrant reading culture within Malvern College Egypt.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver lessons on research methods, media literacy, digital citizenship and academic integrity for KS3‑5 students.
• Provide research workshops and one‑to‑one support for independent projects such as the IB Extended Essay and Cambridge IPQ.
• Collaborate with heads of department to create resource boxes and digital reading lists aligned with the curriculum.
• Curate age‑appropriate fiction and non‑fiction collections, including resources for EAL learners, and organise school‑wide literacy events.
• Manage the library budget, procure print and digital resources, and oversee cataloguing using the Destiny system.
• Conduct inventory, weeding and usage analysis to inform collection development.
• Lead the Library Assistant team, supervising daily operations such as shelving and circulation.
• Maintain a welcoming, safe and flexible library environment that serves as a hub for students and the wider community.

Required profile

Required skills

• Experience with the Destiny library management system.
• Familiarity with digital academic databases such as JSTOR, EBSCO and Britannica School.
