Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Solar PV & BESS

About the role

CSI Global is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to provide expert review and technical advisory for the Zambia Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) program. The role ensures that EPC contractor designs meet project specifications, international standards, and grid‑connection requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review and comment on EPC electrical submittals, including single‑line diagrams, protection coordination studies, cable schedules, grounding designs, and equipment specifications.
• Conduct detailed technical reviews of MV/LV system designs, transformer specifications, switchgear layouts, and inverter station designs.
• Assess BESS electrical designs, BMS configurations, and grid‑forming/following control strategies.
• Perform grid integration studies such as grid‑code compliance, power flow, short‑circuit, and harmonic analyses.
• Review Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures for all electrical equipment.
• Prepare formal technical review reports and engineering comments for EPC contractors.
• Provide technical guidance to the onsite Senior Electrical Engineer and respond to RFIs.
• Support the Engineering Manager in approving key electrical deliverables and contribute to Owner’s Engineer advisory reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 12 years of electrical design experience in utility‑scale power systems.
• Strong background in solar PV and BESS electrical system design.
• Proficiency with electrical analysis software such as ETAP or DigSILENT.
• Solid knowledge of HV/MV protection, grounding, and earthing design.
• Experience with grid‑code compliance and interconnection studies.
• Excellent technical report writing skills.
