Senior Outpatient Pharmacist

About the role

The Senior Outpatient Pharmacist leads the outpatient pharmacy team, overseeing prescription workflow, staffing, and compliance to ensure timely, accurate dispensing and high patient safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise outpatient prescription workflow (walk‑in, insurance, refills, high‑value meds) and adjust staffing in real time to meet Turnaround Time (TAT) benchmarks.
• Drive monthly prescription volume, revenue, productivity and quality targets, tracking performance and applying corrective actions.
• Prepare and manage daily/weekly staff schedules, ensuring appropriate skill mix during peak periods.
• Conduct structured shift handovers covering pending prescriptions, insurance issues, stock shortages, system downtime and high‑risk cases.
• Monitor performance metrics such as TAT, productivity, rejection rate, revenue contribution and dispensing accuracy.
• Oversee generic utilization and formulary compliance to support cost optimisation.
• Lead onboarding, orientation and competency validation for new pharmacists and technicians.
• Coordinate continuous training on workflow, insurance compliance, medication safety and customer service.
• Serve as operational liaison with physicians, nursing, insurance, cashier and IT teams.
• Supervise inventory controls, near‑expiry monitoring, FIFO enforcement and narcotics reconciliation.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising outpatient pharmacy operations and managing real‑time staffing adjustments.
• Track record of meeting prescription volume, revenue and quality targets.
• Ability to conduct effective shift handovers and communicate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience leading onboarding, training and performance management of pharmacy staff.
• Strong knowledge of inventory controls, regulatory compliance for controlled substances and high‑value medications.
