Electrical Engineer – Energy Projects (BESS & Substation)

About the role

RINA is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its Energy Project Solutions Division in Aswan. The role provides independent technical oversight, engineering assurance and quality monitoring for battery energy storage system (BESS) electrical components and high‑voltage/middle‑voltage substation works executed by the EPC contractor.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor EPC installation of GIS/AIS, transformers, MV switchgear, protection panels, AC/DC systems and cabling, ensuring compliance with IFC drawings, project specifications and IEC/IEEE standards.
• Identify design deviations, technical risks and non‑conformities, and escalate them appropriately.
• Review and approve shop drawings, wiring diagrams, protection schemes, SCADA mappings and installation procedures.
• Oversee protection and control activities, including coordination studies, relay settings, interlocking logic and test procedures, and witness protection testing.
• Supervise QA/QC processes, witness insulation resistance, Hi‑Pot, contact resistance and equipment acceptance tests, and manage NCRs and corrective actions.
• Validate pre‑commissioning and commissioning procedures, track punch‑list closure and support energisation readiness documentation.
• Coordinate substation interfaces with civil, SCADA, telecom and grid operator teams, resolving multidisciplinary conflicts.
• Verify EPC progress against milestones, prepare regular progress, quality and risk reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of substation design, BESS electrical systems and grid code requirements.
• Experience with IEC/IEEE standards, protection and control engineering, and QA/QC documentation.
• Ability to conduct site inspections, review technical documentation and produce clear reports.
