Primary Design Engineer

About the role

The Primary Design Engineer will lead the electrical design of power substations, creating detailed layout, section and reinforcement drawings. You will work closely with civil teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical and structural elements while supporting project execution from concept to construction.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed substation drawings, including layout, sections, grounding, reinforcement and cable routing plans.
• Develop and evaluate conceptual design options for transmission and distribution projects.
• Perform engineering calculations such as grounding analysis, shielding studies for lightning protection, AC/DC load calculations, and raceway/openings analysis.
• Coordinate foundation and electrical design packages with civil engineers.
• Identify, specify and requisition all substation materials, including transformers, cables, raceways and grounding systems.
• Provide technical assistance during construction and follow up daily on design submittal approvals.
• Participate in design meetings to optimise solutions and minimise re‑work.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities and material specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience in electrical power substation design.
• Hands‑on experience with grounding analysis, lightning protection shielding, AC/DC load calculations and raceway/openings analysis.
• Familiarity with substation components such as transformers, cabling, raceways and grounding systems.
• Experience coordinating electrical designs with civil teams and preparing BOQs.
