AML Consultant – North Africa

About the role

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) seeks an experienced Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) Consultant to support a series of capacity‑building activities across North Africa. The role is home‑based with regular travel to Algeria, Morocco and other regional partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a guide on money‑laundering and terrorist‑financing (ML/TF) risks for designated non‑financial businesses and professions (DNFBPs) in Algeria.
• Deliver a 2‑day workshop on implementing the Algerian ML/TF guide.
• Conduct a 3‑day workshop on strategic and operational analysis, cooperation, public relations and communications.
• Produce an academic study on illicit financial transactions linked to human trafficking and migrant smuggling for the Moroccan FIU and financial institutions.
• Facilitate a 2‑day workshop on applying the Moroccan study.
• Lead a regional 3‑day workshop on cryptocurrency financial investigations for North African authorities.
• Provide technical assistance to Moroccan authorities for virtual asset (VA) and VASP risk assessments.
• Deliver workshops for Moroccan officials on tracing, investigating, seizing and managing virtual assets.
• Organise a workshop on targeted financial sanctions for Algerian officials.
• Develop content for an accredited program on targeted financial sanctions, including proliferation financing and virtual‑asset dealings.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in criminal justice, criminology, law, political science, management or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in AML/CTF policy development, training delivery and financial‑crime investigations.
• Familiarity with virtual assets, cryptocurrency investigations and targeted financial sanctions.
