Junior Fire and Life Safety Engineer

About the role

Bilfinger is seeking a Junior Fire and Life Safety Engineer to join its Cairo team. You will support the design and engineering of fire protection and life‑safety systems for industrial, commercial and infrastructure projects across the Middle East.

Key responsibilities

• Develop preliminary, concept and detailed designs for fire‑fighting, sprinkler, water‑spray, foam, hydrant, CO₂, FM‑200, inert‑gas and kitchen‑hood systems.
• Prepare P&ID and PFD drawings, hydraulic models, fire‑pump sizing calculations and hydrant network layouts.
• Generate material take‑offs (MTO), technical submittals and construction documents, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
• Design fire‑alarm and fire‑and‑gas (F&G) systems, produce cause‑and‑effect matrices and design reports.
• Coordinate with architects, structural, HVAC, plumbing and electrical engineers as well as BIM modelers.
• Verify that all designs meet NFPA standards, UAE Fire Code and local DCD requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2‑3 years of experience in fire and life‑safety design for industrial buildings, preferably in the UAE consultancy market.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and produce clear technical documentation.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NFPA standards, UAE Fire Code and DCD requirements.
• Experience with fire‑protection system design (sprinklers, deluge, foam, CO₂, FM‑200, inert‑gas, kitchen‑hood).
• Proficiency in creating P&ID/PFD, hydraulic models and fire‑pump sizing.
• Preparation of MTOs, technical submittals and cause‑and‑effect matrices.
• Familiarity with BIM coordination and guidance for CAD designers.
