Senior Software Engineer – Elixir (Cairo)

About the role

Join sonnen’s global IoT cloud platform as a Senior Software Engineer focused on Elixir. Based in Cairo, you will help build high‑performance backend services that manage a worldwide network of batteries, EV chargers and heat pumps, contributing directly to the transition to clean, affordable energy.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable cloud services using Elixir and Phoenix.
• Lead technical initiatives and mentor junior engineers in functional programming best practices.
• Build and optimise distributed systems for real‑time IoT data processing.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers and DevOps on system architecture and implementation.
• Implement event‑driven and RESTful microservices for energy‑management workflows.
• Ensure high code quality through testing, code reviews and documentation.
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous performance improvements.
• Contribute to infrastructure‑as‑code, CI/CD pipeline enhancements and monitoring.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience with Elixir/Erlang or similar functional languages.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database optimisation.
• Experience with event‑based and microservice architectures.
• Proficiency with CI/CD tools (GitHub, GitLab, GitLab CI) and Git workflows.
• Fluent English communication skills.
