Principal Engineer - Silicon Photonics PDK Device Library Developer

About the role

GlobalFoundries is looking for a Principal Engineer to develop device-library components for its Process Design Kits (PDKs) in silicon photonics. The role covers developing Cadence PCells, supporting layout design, maintaining the PDK collection and automation tools, and documenting them for customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design components for the PDK device library
• Develop Cadence PCells so photonic devices can be deployed on internal test sites and customer layouts
• Support layout design activities for internal test sites
• Develop, deploy, support and maintain the PDK collection of tech files and runtime code readable by EDA tools
• Develop, deploy, support and maintain automation tools representing the fab process
• Review and interpret process design rules and SPICE models to create specification data for the PDK
• Create and maintain test cases for DRC and LVS and run quality checks to deliver error-free results to customers
• Create and update release notes and application notes, documenting known limitations, issues and solutions

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent
• Fluent English, written and spoken
• Good attitude, interpersonal skills and teamwork ability
• Self-motivated, resourceful, well organised and detail-oriented
• Preferred: BS + 4-5 years, MS + 2-4 years or PhD + 1-2 years of experience

Required skills

• CAD systems in electronics (Cadence IC, Cadence OrCAD, Protel or similar)
• Preferred: Cadence Virtuoso Layout or Schematic, or Cadence Skill scripting
• Preferred: scripting languages such as Perl, Tcl, Bash
• Preferred: Unix/Linux, silicon photonics, ML or GenAI knowledge
