Substation Automation and Protection Field Services Engineer

About the role

GE Vernova is looking for a Substation Automation and Protection Field Services Engineer in Cairo. You will own the engineering and field services of Substation Automation Systems, including DCS and RTU, and of Protection, Control and Tele-Protection panels. The role coordinates closely with Sales, Tendering, Project Management, Telecom Engineering, Application and After-Sales teams, and reports to the GA NAFT Engineering & Field Services Leader.

Key responsibilities

• Own the engineering and field services for Substation Automation Systems, including DCS and RTU, and for Protection, Control and Tele-Protection panels.
• Lead and develop the technical team through training, mentorship and day-to-day technical support.
• Analyze customer requirements and propose innovative, cost-effective technical solutions.
• Design substation LAN networks and communication architectures, and configure industrial Ethernet switches, routers and satellite clocks/time synchronization systems.
• Participate with the Project Manager in meetings with customers, end users, subcontractors and internal stakeholders, and support project planning to meet milestones.
• Follow the department's standard design processes and contribute to their continuous improvement.
• Support Sales and Tendering teams, and prepare and deliver customer training sessions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Control or Communications Engineering, or a closely related field.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience testing and commissioning protection relays and DCS (IEC 61850) for HV/EHV substations.
• Fluency in English and Arabic (oral, reading and writing).
• Willingness to travel within and outside the country as required.
• Desired: experience with Egyptian utilities, oil & gas customers, EPCs, OEMs and system integrators.

Required skills

• Sequencing and interlocking principles implemented on IEC 61850 IEDs.
• Communication protocols: IEC 61850, MODBUS, IEC 60870-5-101/104, T103, SNMP.
• Good understanding of IT/OT networking; CCNA or equivalent preferred.
• Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
